“The children’s voices echoed through the old town, the little ones were the first to go, followed by the older ones who then coordinated the group. We live in a clean country, so much unexpected waste!”
The Municipality of Orria Cilento, with the patronage of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, organised the First Edition of the Ecological Walk with great success. The event, part of the ‘Clean up the World’ campaign promoted by Legambiente, saw the active participation of the entire community, united in their commitment to safeguarding the environment.
The walk started from Orria Cilento’s evocative historic centre, precisely from the Church of San Felice, and continued to theAntica Fontana di Valvartieri, where participants stopped for lunch surrounded by the nature of the surrounding forest. The children, armed with gloves and bags, cleaned up the entire route, demonstrating an amazing attention to detail in finding and collecting waste, which is often hidden and difficult to notice. This spirit of cooperation and commitment highlighted how such initiatives can increase ecological awareness and promote good environmental practices.
In the afternoon, the atmosphere was enlivened with a series of eco-themed workshops, music and delicious Cilento snacks. Participants were able to enjoy bread and sausage, bread and oil, watermelon and the traditional caciocavallo impiccato, spread on bread, delighting the palates of young and old alike.
The event was widely attended not only by the inhabitants of Orria, but also by neighbouring hamlets and external visitors, creating a unique opportunity to meet and share. The day proved to be a moment of great social cohesion, strengthening ties between community members and improving relations with neighbouring communities.
The First Edition of the Ecological Walk demonstrated how important and possible it is to join forces for a common goal: environmental protection. The success of the event inspired the Municipality of Orria to repeat the initiative again next year, with the aim of continuing to promote environmental awareness, involve more and more people and improve the quality of life through ecological education and community collaboration.
Special thanks go to all the participants and volunteers who made this unforgettable day possible, helping to make Orria a cleaner and more welcoming place for everyone.
